What's New for 2012: I'm back in the Public again! I have accepted a position with North Wellington Co-Op in Harriston. I will be primarily in the Garden Centre, but they're going to let me play in the Store too! (OK, work in the Store, but there's a fine line....) I'm looking forward to assisting you in a comprehensive Garden Centre again! John will be left in charge here at Avalon, although I will be present for any booked tours or Special Events. We would greatly appreciate if you contact us in advance as John is undergoing Interferon Therapy this Summer.
Avalon Gardens will not be Opening in 2012! Looking for something specific? Send us your Wish List & we'll get it for you in 2013! Wandering through the Gardens again beginning May 2012 is free, however we respectfully request that you Contact Us to arrange a day and time in advance. Any questions about the estimated 4000 varieties of trees, shrubs & perennials within the Display Gardens will be answered to the best of our ability.
Consider a Gift Certificate for a Special Occasion! Available from our Seeds Site in $10 & $25 denominations. We'll mail a lovely Gift Certificate directly to the recipient for you! Here's a direct Link! Lots of easy and secure payment methods to choose from! Avalon Gardens Gift Certificates may be used on our Seeds Site, or here on the Farm! Although most of our live plants are going to Wholesale orders this year, we'll happily sell you anything we carry when you visit us here! Please note, our handy little Debit Machine will be in storage for 2012. We hope to bring our little buddy back in May of 2013.
John & I would like to welcome you to our Home on the Web! We invite you to take our virtual tour through the Gardens to feed your Gardening need and fortify your soul!
Avalon Gardens was a dream come true for John & I in the spring of 1999. After several years in the Horticultural industry, we struck out on our own as a Garden Design, Installation & Maintenance operation. It didn't take us long to realize that we'd be pretty heavy on the maintenance end of the scale. This gives us a unique perspective on plants & their requirements. It has also helped that quite a few of our clients have been & are true collectors. Gives us an opportunity to trial a few things under different conditions, not to mention developing hands-on knowledge of a greater diversity of plants. Over the years, we've gardened in pure sand, pure clay, pure swamp, twelve inches of well-rotted manure (gloves were mandatory there), gravel, stones, & good ole triple-mix.
We've learned our lesson well that in most gardens, weeds that resemble your beloved perennials will grow in their shadow. Mouse-eared chickweed loves woolly thyme, wood sorrel adores columbines, & creeping charlie goes best with periwinkle & lamium. Twitch grass isn't too particular, neither are dandelions, they hang out with everyone! I'm not even going to give bindweed a dishonourable mention......
Overall, it's been a fantastic 13 seasons! We've gotten to know some amazing people & been hands-on in some incredible gardens. We've assisted in many different Nurseries & Garden Centres, enabling us to continue to learn & grow. We're focusing now on our on-line seed sales site. All of our seeds are drawn from the estimated 3900 varieties of shrubs & perennials within our extensive Display Gardens. Avalon Perennials and Avalon Seeds are the culmination of 18 years in the horticultural industry for me, & 21 years for John, but every day, we're still learning something new! So many plants we don't have yet, so much lawn to strip.......... Happy Gardening, Everyone!!!
Please Note: All Photos on this site are from & about the Gardens at Avalon, taken by me, Ann.

Frank & the gang have an awesome collection of containers, annuals, perennials, trees & shrubs at very affordable prices. 15 minutes from Avalon, it's worthwhile to check them out!
RiverBendGardens.net Alen & Shirley Koch carry over 1000 varieties of hemerocallis, 900+ hostas, asiatic & oriental lillies, & a smattering of other perennials. 12 minutes up the road & just into Huron County. A fun place to visit!
www.PlantSale.ca Sandra Duncan & Monica Doer generally have 2 sales throughout the season, Spring & Fall. Nice place to visit, knowledgeable die-hard gardeners.
